A brilliant batting display by KL Rahul (75) and Pathum Nissanka (62) guided Delhi Capitals to a seven-wicket victory over Rajasthan Royals in a high-scoring IPL clash on Friday, overshadowing a magnificent 90 from Riyan Parag.

Parag’s 50-ball 90 lifted Rajasthan Royals to a strong 225 for six , despite early setbacks. However, Delhi Capitals responded with an authoritative chase, reaching 226 for three with several overs to spare.Parag, who was managing a hamstring niggle and stayed off the field for a significant part of the second innings, saw Yashasvi Jaiswal take over captaincy duties.

The chase began in dominant fashion as Rahul and Nissanka put on a 102-run opening partnership in just 9.3 overs . Rahul started cautiously but soon shifted gears, playing a range of elegant strokes all around the ground. His innings included a crisp cover drive off Nandre Burger, a powerful pull shot off Jofra Archer, and back-to-back sixes off Ravi Bishnoi.

Nissanka was equally impressive, using his pull shot to great effect, striking three sixes in total one off Archer and two off Burger. Rahul reached his fifty in 27 balls, while Nissanka got there slightly quicker.Nissanka was dismissed by Ravindra Jadeja after failing to connect a reverse sweep, but the Capitals remained firmly in control as Rahul added another 61 runs with Nitish Rana (33) .

The momentum shifted briefly when both Rana and Rahul fell in quick succession, including Rahul’s dismissal off a mistimed lofted shot to deep long-on off Archer. At that stage, Delhi needed 49 runs from 26 balls.

However, Ashutosh Sharma and Tristan Stubbs handled the situation calmly, ensuring Delhi completed their highest successful chase in IPL history .With this win, Delhi Capitals moved up to sixth place with eight points , while Rajasthan Royals stayed fourth with 12 points.

Earlier, Rajasthan Royals’ innings revolved around Parag’s comeback knock. The skipper, under pressure due to poor form and a 25 per cent BCCI fine related to an off-field incident, responded with a commanding performance.

After losing Vaibhav Sooryavanshi and Jaiswal early to Kyle Jamieson and Mitchell Starc (3/40), Rajasthan were reduced to 12 for two.Parag initially looked unsettled but regained confidence after a stunning assault on Jamieson, hitting a sequence of 6, 4, 6 in the sixth over. His timing and aggression returned, highlighted by a stylish forehand-like six over covers off T Natarajan.

He brought up his fifty in 32 balls and shared a 102-run stand with Dhruv Jurel (42) . Later, he combined with Ravindra Jadeja for a useful 53-run stand. However, both Jurel and Parag were dismissed by Starc, halting Rajasthan’s momentum. In the final phase, Donovan Ferreira provided a late surge, smashing 47 off just 14 balls to push the total past 225.

Despite Rajasthan’s strong batting effort, Delhi’s disciplined and explosive chase proved decisive on the night.
