Delhi and Mumbai shine with nail-biting wins in TPL clashes

The Tennis Premier League delivered another thrilling evening in Ahmedabad on Wednesday, with GS Delhi Aces and Yash Mumbai Eagles securing hard-fought victories to strengthen their standings in the competition. Both teams showcased depth across categories, turning close contests into decisive wins.

GS Delhi Aces opened their clash against Chennai Smashers with an impressive performance from Sofia Costoulas. The 20-year-old Belgian dominated the women’s singles, outplaying Irina Bara 17–8 through steady baseline rallies and a sharp backhand. Costoulas extended her impact in the mixed doubles as well, partnering Jeevan Nedunchezhiyan to defeat Bara and Rithvik Bollipalli 16–9, giving Delhi a solid early lead.

Chennai fought back in the men’s singles, where Dalibor Svrcina edged out Billy Harris 13–12 in one of the tightest battles of the night. However, Delhi sealed the overall tie through a composed men’s doubles display. Harris and Nedunchezhiyan combined effectively to secure a 13–12 win, completing a 56–44 aggregate victory for the Aces.

In the second match of the evening, Yash Mumbai Eagles earned a narrow 51–49 win over SG Pipers Bengaluru in a contest that swung repeatedly between the two sides.

Mumbai began strongly as Riya Bhatia delivered a commanding 17–8 victory over Shrivalli Bhamidipaty in women’s singles. The Bengaluru pair of Bhamidipaty and veteran Rohan Bopanna responded in mixed doubles, maintaining their unbeaten streak with a 14–11 win over Bhatia and Niki Poonacha.

Mumbai regained momentum in men’s singles when Ramkumar Ramanathan overcame world No. 57 Damir Dzumhur 15–10 with an aggressive all-court display. In the decisive men’s doubles, Ramanathan teamed up with Bopanna to edge out Poonacha and Dzumhur 13–12, completing a nail-biting win for the Eagles.
