Delcy Rodriguez To Arrive In India Today For Five-Day Visit, PM Modi Talks Scheduled
Venezuela’s acting President Delcy Rodriguez will arrive in India on Wednesday for a five-day official visit from June 3 to June 7 , during which she will hold wide-ranging talks with Prime Minister Narendra Modi , the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) said.
MEA spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal said discussions will cover the full spectrum of India–Venezuela relations , with focus on energy security, trade, investment, pharmaceuticals, healthcare, renewable energy and technology cooperation .
The visit comes amid growing India–Venezuela energy engagement , with crude oil cooperation emerging as a key area of bilateral interest as India continues to diversify its energy imports. The broader context also includes evolving global energy diplomacy involving Venezuela’s transitional leadership since early 2026.
Rodriguez assumed office as acting President in January 2026 following political developments in Venezuela. She has since completed around one year in leadership, undertaking select foreign visits, including trips to Grenada and Barbados in April 2026 focused on Caribbean energy cooperation, and a visit to The Hague in May 2026 for International Court of Justice proceedings related to the Essequibo dispute with Guyana .
In the wider geopolitical backdrop, U.S. policy under President Donald Trump has been linked to selective easing and recalibration of sanctions-related engagement with Venezuela’s transitional administration, particularly in relation to global energy market stability.
Officials noted that Rodriguez had earlier visited India in her previous capacity, including participation in India Energy Week 2025 , where she discussed hydrocarbon cooperation and investment opportunities.
Reports have also linked Rodriguez to earlier personal and spiritual visits to Prasanthi Nilayam in Puttaparthi, Andhra Pradesh , the ashram associated with spiritual leader Sathya Sai Baba , a site widely regarded as a major centre of spiritual practice and pilgrimage. These visits were not part of official diplomatic programmes.
During the visit, Rodriguez will be accompanied by a high-level delegation of ministers handling foreign affairs, economy and finance, science and technology, communication and information, and transportation , reflecting the broad scope of discussions.
