Delay in RTE admissions in Rajasthan

Thousands of children across Rajasthan have been left without access to classrooms this academic year due to delays in the implementation of the Right to Education (RTE) Act admissions. The RTE mandate reserves 25% of seats in private schools for children from economically weaker sections and disadvantaged groups, but the process has been plagued by bureaucratic hurdles.

Parents and activists allege that despite the academic session starting months ago, many selected students are still waiting for confirmation letters and school allotments. Several families have been forced to keep their children at home or send them to informal learning centres, leading to disruption in their education.

Education officials attribute the delay to technical glitches in the online admission portal and slow verification of income and residential documents. However, critics argue that poor planning and lack of accountability are the main reasons for the setback.

The issue has sparked protests from parents and civil society groups, who have demanded urgent intervention from the state government to ensure timely enrollment. Experts warn that such delays not only violate children’s fundamental right to education but also widen existing social inequalities in access to quality schooling.
