Dehradun Cloudburst: CM Dhami inspects ravaged areas, calls it a ‘Big Disaster’

Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami on Tuesday visited the areas in and around Dehradun that were severely battered by a massive cloudburst, leaving behind widespread devastation. Describing the situation as a “big disaster,” the CM assured that the state government is mobilising all resources to provide relief and restore normalcy.

Heavy rainfall late Monday night triggered flash floods, landslides, and damage to infrastructure in multiple parts of Dehradun district. Several houses, roads, and vehicles were washed away, while communication lines and power supply were disrupted in many villages. Rescue and relief teams, including the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) and National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), have been deployed on an urgent basis.

“Uttarakhand is facing a major natural calamity. We are working round the clock to ensure that those affected receive immediate assistance. Our priority is to save lives and provide shelter, food, and medical support,” Dhami told reporters after inspecting the worst-hit localities. He also held a meeting with senior officials to review the damage and directed them to speed up rehabilitation efforts.

Preliminary reports suggest multiple casualties and several people reported missing, though official figures are yet to be confirmed. Schools and offices in the affected areas have been closed, and the state government has urged residents to avoid unnecessary travel.

The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted more heavy rainfall in the region over the next 24 hours, raising concerns of further landslides and flash floods. Authorities have set up emergency helplines and are coordinating with the Army and Air Force for possible evacuation operations.

Dhami appealed to the people of Uttarakhand to remain calm and follow safety advisories. “We will overcome this disaster together. The government stands with every citizen during this difficult time,” he said.
