Dedicated MSME parks for women entrepreneurs announced by Minister Sridhar Babu

The Telangana government has taken a major step to promote women entrepreneurs and empower them economically. D. Sridhar Babu, Minister for Industries, announced on Sunday that the state plans to set up dedicated MSME (Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises) parks for women in every assembly constituency. The initiative aligns with the government’s vision of transforming Telangana into a $3 trillion economy by 2047, with women playing a central role in this growth.

Minister Sridhar Babu highlighted the progress made in women’s workforce participation in the state. He noted that women now make up 52.7% of Telangana’s labor force, significantly higher than the national average of 45.2%. The share of women in employment has risen from 22% in 2017-18 to 40.3% in 2023-24. The minister also emphasized the role of the V-Hub organization in supporting women entrepreneurs, aiming to help them build globally competitive businesses. The government is working to provide women with skill development, technical support, financial assistance, and market access under a single, streamlined system.

MSME stands for Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises. An MSME park is a dedicated industrial area where small and medium-sized businesses can set up operations with ease. These parks provide essential infrastructure such as land or ready-made sheds (available on lease), roads, drainage, electricity, water supply, and other common facilities.

The creation of women-focused MSME parks offers multiple benefits. By providing all necessary infrastructure in one location, setting up a new business and obtaining licenses becomes much easier. Registered MSMEs in these parks are eligible for government incentives, including concessional bank loans, tax exemptions, and discounted electricity rates.

Each park is expected to host thousands of small units, creating direct and indirect employment opportunities for hundreds of thousands of people. Local youth, both in urban and rural areas, will have access to jobs close to home. Continuous skill development programs within the parks will enhance the capabilities of workers. Increased employment opportunities will boost income levels and strengthen the regional economy.

The MSME sector already contributes nearly 30% of India’s GDP and provides jobs to millions. These dedicated parks will not only create employment but also enable women to become entrepreneurs, transitioning from being employees to business leaders.
