“Death is the Only Way Out,”:Rape Survivor Before Attempting Self Harm Outside Gurugram CP Office
A disturbing incident unfolded outside the Gurugram Police Commissioner’s office on Thursday, when a rape survivor allegedly attempted self immolation , accusing police of prolonged inaction in her case.
According to reports, the woman arrived at the police headquarters carrying a bottle of petrol and a matchbox. She is said to have poured the fuel over herself at the entrance, expressing deep frustration over the handling of her complaint. However, alert police personnel present at the spot acted swiftly and managed to stop her before she could set herself on fire. She was later calmed down and taken to safety .
Videos of the incident soon surfaced on social media, capturing tense moments outside the office. Though visuals are unclear, the woman’s distress and cries can be heard, reflecting the severity of her desperation .
The woman had earlier alleged that she was raped by a man from Panipat and had filed an FIR at Sector 51 police station nearly four months ago. According to her, despite repeated follow ups, the accused has not been arrested so far . She also claimed that the accused’s family and associates have been threatening her and her family , pressuring them to withdraw the complaint, leaving her feeling unsafe and unheard.
In a video recorded before reaching the police office, she said, “The accused is still roaming freely. His family and goons are threatening us. Death is the only way out.”
Police officials have not issued a detailed statement on the incident. However, in a brief response, Gurugram Police said the accused would be arrested soon , without clearly confirming or denying the attempted self harm.
The incident has once again raised serious concerns over delays in investigation and the protection of survivors seeking justice , highlighting gaps between complaints filed and action taken.
