Deadly Bangkok Pub Blaze Leaves 27 Dead, Probe Focuses on Safety Lapses

A devastating fire at a popular live music pub in Thailand's capital has killed at least 27 people and injured more than 70 others , triggering a major investigation and renewed concerns over fire safety standards at entertainment venues.

The blaze broke out late Sunday night at the Rong Beer Na Lat Phrao (Na Ladprao) pub in Bangkok's Chatuchak district. Firefighters brought the flames under control within a short time, but thick smoke and the rapid spread of the fire trapped many patrons inside. Authorities said around 25 people remain in critical condition , with smoke inhalation accounting for many of the serious injuries.

Officials have launched an investigation to determine the cause of the fire. Preliminary findings suggest an electrical fault may have sparked the blaze, although forensic experts are yet to confirm the exact cause. Investigators are also examining whether flammable interior materials accelerated the fire and whether emergency exits were blocked or inaccessible , potentially contributing to the high death toll.

Authorities said the victims were mostly Thai nationals , while at least one person from Laos was among those killed. The identification process is continuing through forensic examinations. No Indian national has been reported among the dead or injured , according to the latest official information, and the Indian Embassy has not issued any advisory regarding Indian casualties.

The tragedy has prompted Thai authorities to review the pub's compliance with fire safety regulations , including its emergency evacuation measures, electrical systems and building standards. Officials will also determine whether negligence played a role in the disaster.

The incident is Thailand's deadliest entertainment venue fire since the 2009 Santika Club tragedy , in which 67 people lost their lives after an indoor fireworks display ignited combustible materials. The latest disaster has once again highlighted the risks posed by inadequate fire prevention measures, obstructed escape routes and highly flammable interiors in crowded public venues.
