DCP fires at attacking rowdy-sheeter, injured
A known rowdy-sheeter was injured after a police officer opened fire in self-defence.
According to Hyderabad Police Commissioner V C Sajjanar, DCP (South East Zone) Chaitanya Kumar and his gunman were on their way to the office when they received information about a mobile phone snatching incident. They tried to stop the accused, but he attacked the DCP and his gunman.
To protect himself and his colleague, the DCP fired two rounds. The accused, identified as Mohd Omar Ansari, was hit in the hand and stomach and was immediately taken to a hospital for treatment. Doctors are also conducting tests to check for any internal injuries.
Mohd Omar Ansari was with another alleged offender during the incident. Both the DCP and his gunman are safe.
Commissioner Sajjanar said, “The DCP had to fire when the constable was about to be injured by the accused.” Investigations are ongoing, and police are looking into the details of the case.
This incident highlights the dangers faced by police officers while tackling criminals involved in serious offenses in the city.
Mohd Omar Ansari, a notorious rowdy-sheeter from Hyderabad's Kalapathar area, has been involved in over 20 criminal cases since 2010. His offenses span theft, extortion, armed assault, and attempts to murder. He has been arrested multiple times and was detained under the Preventive Detention (PD) Act in 2016 and 2020 for his repeated criminal activities.
Ansari's criminal background includes:
• Theft and Snatching: He has been involved in multiple mobile phone snatching incidents, often targeting pedestrians and commuters.
• Extortion: He has extorted money from local businesses and individuals, using threats and intimidation.
• Armed Assault: Ansari has been charged under the Arms Act for illegal possession of weapons and has used them during his criminal activities.
• Attempted Murder: In several instances, he has been accused of attempting to murder victims during robberies or confrontations with law enforcement.
His criminal activities have made him a significant concern for local law enforcement, leading to his classification as a rowdy-sheeter and his repeated detentions under the PD Act. Despite these measures, he continued his illegal activities.
The authorities are continuing their efforts to apprehend his accomplices and ensure that Ansari faces the full extent of the law for his extensive criminal history.
