Day 17 of CJP Stir: Wangchuk Loses Nearly 7 kg During Fast, Fresh Allegations Target Police
The Cockroach Janta Part y (CJP) continued its protest over alleged examination irregularities on Monday, with the agitation at Jantar Mantar entering its 17th day . At the centre of the movement, activist Sonam Wangchuk marked the ninth day of his indefinite hunger strike , as doctors reported continued weight loss and growing health concerns.
According to a medical bulletin released by the doctors attending to Wangchuk, he has lost 6.9 kilograms since beginning the fast. His blood pressure was recorded at 107/67 mm Hg , while his blood glucose level stood at 72 mg/dL . Despite the decline in his health, Wangchuk has continued the fast in support of demands for greater accountability over alleged examination irregularities and paper leaks.
The protest also witnessed fresh controversy after CJP founder Abhijeet Dipke alleged that police personnel had been instructed to record women volunteers participating in the demonstration. In a post on X, Dipke claimed that officials were seen taking photographs of women volunteers late at night and left the spot after being confronted by protesters. There was no immediate response from the police regarding the allegation.
Dipke travelled to Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar in Maharashtra on Monday, where he joined students protesting against the alleged examination paper leak. Expressing solidarity with the students, he reiterated the CJP's support for their demand that competitive examinations be conducted in offline mode .
Meanwhile, members of the All India Students' Association (AISA) , affiliated with CPI(ML) Liberation , continued their indefinite hunger strike from a separate stage at Jantar Mantar. The protest comes days after Jawaharlal Nehru University Students' Union (JNUSU) Joint Secretary Danish Ali was hospitalized following a drop in blood sugar levels during the fast.
Other protesters, including Neha, Manish, Hrishikesh, Deepak Kumar Verma and Aameen , continued their indefinite fast as the agitation entered another week.
The CJP has been demanding the resignation of Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan , alleging that repeated examination irregularities and paper leaks have severely affected the future of students across the country. The movement began on June 20 following controversy surrounding the NEET examination, which was cancelled after alleged paper leak claims before a re-test was conducted on June 21 .
