Daniel Dsouza Joins Anthropic’s Founding Applied AI Team in India
Artificial intelligence (AI) professional Daniel Dsouza has joined Anthropic, the AI safety and research company behind Claude, as part of its founding Applied AI team in India, marking another step in the company’s expansion in the country.
Dsouza announced his appointment in a LinkedIn post, expressing enthusiasm about working at the intersection of research, technology and real-world applications. He said he looked forward to building new solutions alongside the team.
Before joining Anthropic, Dsouza served as Head of AI at JoulesToWatts (J2W) Business Solutions, an enterprise AI firm catering to Global Capability Centres (GCCs) and operating across 15 countries. In that role, he led the company’s AI strategy and developed a forward-deployed engineering team focused on delivering AI solutions to enterprise clients.
He previously co-founded SmaLLM, a startup specialising in fine-tuning and continuously improving small language models. The venture was incubated by Antler India and Berkeley SkyDeck.
Dsouza has also held senior leadership positions at other technology companies. He served as Chief Revenue Officer at Adya AI, which is backed by IvyCap Ventures, and was Chief Technology Officer before becoming Chief Executive Officer of Webstream Communications, a live-streaming company serving Fortune 500 organisations and government customers, including the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO).
During his tenure at Webstream Communications, he expanded the company’s operations across Australia, Singapore and the Middle East. His professional experience spans pre-sales, solutions architecture and managed services, particularly within the India and Asia-Pacific GCC ecosystem.
Dsouza holds an MBA from INSEAD in France and an undergraduate degree in Electronics and Telecommunications Engineering.
His appointment comes as Anthropic strengthens its presence in India. The company has identified India as the second-largest market for Claude, its AI assistant. Earlier this year, Anthropic appointed Irina Ghose as Managing Director for India, signalling its focus on the country’s growing AI market and enterprise adoption.
