‘Dacoit Your Heart’? Not really -A film that steals only in parts
One of this week’s much-awaited Tollywood releases, Dacoit, hit theatres alongside LIK (Love Insurance Kompany) amid high anticipation. With Adivi Sesh at the helm, expectations were high given his reputation for unique storytelling. However, does the film live up to the hype? Let’s find out.
Plot and the Story- Will revenge win over love?
The film revolves around Hari (Adivi Sesh), also known as Romeo, and Saraswathi, aka Juliet, played by Mrunal Thakur. Their relationship is tested by betrayal, misunderstandings, and emotional turmoil.
The story explores why Hari ends up in jail and how a wounded lover navigates between revenge and lingering love. Set against a backdrop that also touches upon caste differences, the narrative attempts to balance intense emotions.
What Makes ‘Dacoit’ Different?
One of the standout elements that sets Dacoit apart is its music, particularly the remix of “Kannepettaro Kannukottaro,” which plays a crucial role in elevating the film’s mood. The background score during key moments, especially in hero elevation scenes, adds energy and enhances the overall cinematic experience.
While Adivi Sesh’s contribution to the screenplay shows occasional glimpses of his signature style, it doesn’t consistently hold the narrative together. Certain frames and close-up shots do work effectively in highlighting the protagonist.
Performances
Adivi Sesh:
While he delivers a decent performance as Hari, he doesn’t fully embody the intensity expected from a character titled “Dacoit.” There was scope for a more powerful portrayal.
Mrunal Thakur:
The standout performer of the film. She brings depth, emotion, and authenticity to her role, making her performance the film’s biggest strength.
Anurag Kashyap:
Playing a cop, he delivers a solid performance with impactful dialogue delivery, adding weight to the narrative.
Kamakshi Bhaskarla:
Impresses in her role as Malli, contributing effectively to the story.
Prakash Raj:
As always, reliable and natural in his role.
Music and Background Score
The background score emerges as one of the film’s strongest elements, elevating several key scenes, especially hero elevation moments.
The remix of “Kannepettaro Kannukottaro” works well within the narrative, adding energy. The song “Rubaroo” also stands out for its emotional appeal. Overall, the music complements the film effectively.
Production and Technical Aspects
The film’s visual tone and close-up framing work well in parts. The Rayalaseema setting adds authenticity, though some scenes feel staged or forced due to screenplay limitations.
Technically, the film is decent, but it doesn’t consistently maintain engagement.
Dacoit turns out to be an average cinematic experience. While it has strong performances especially from Mrunal Thakur and an effective background score, it falls short due to an uneven screenplay.
It’s a one-time watch for those who enjoy revenge dramas with emotional undertones, but it may not fully satisfy expectations set by its promotional material.
Rating: 2.75/5
