The impact of Cyclone Murasu has begun to ease across Andhra Pradesh, with rainfall subsiding in most districts and water levels in several reservoirs and drainage systems stabilising. However, its remnants continue to influence weather across southern India, with thunderstorms and gusty winds forecast in parts of Telangana and heavy rainfall expected in Tamil Nadu, Puducherry and Kerala over the coming days.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) said Murasu had weakened from a severe cyclonic storm into a low-pressure system after crossing the south Andhra Pradesh coast on November 3. Although the immediate threat from cyclone-force winds has passed, the associated circulation continues to contribute to rainfall in neighbouring regions.

In Andhra Pradesh, conditions have improved, with rainfall largely stopping across most districts. The Godavari region, including West Godavari, East Godavari, Kakinada, Eluru and Polavaram, received heavy rainfall during the storm. Nellore also reported rainfall on Thursday morning, while most Rayalaseema districts recorded little or no rain. Water levels in the Thammileru and Budameru systems have started receding, while Yerra Kalva has stabilised. Isolated light to moderate showers are expected over the coming days, with slightly higher rainfall activity possible in Nellore, Tirupati and Bapatla towards the weekend.

In Telangana, the remnants of Murasu brought exceptionally heavy rainfall to eastern districts, particularly Bhadradri Kothagudem and Khammam. Aswaraopeta in Bhadradri Kothagudem recorded 276.8 mm of rainfall between 8.30 am and 3 pm on November 4. Mulugu, Mahabubabad, Warangal and Suryapet were among the other districts affected by heavy showers. The IMD has forecast thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and gusty winds of 30 to 40 kmph at isolated places in 18 districts, including Hyderabad, over the next 24 hours. Rainfall activity is expected to ease, with dry weather likely from November 8.

Meanwhile, Tamil Nadu and Puducherry are expected to receive fairly widespread rainfall over the weekend, with isolated heavy showers forecast on November 5 and 6. Kerala is also likely to experience isolated heavy rainfall between November 6 and 8. Parts of south interior Karnataka could receive heavy showers, while Odisha and Chhattisgarh are expected to witness scattered rainfall and thunderstorms.
