Cyberattack hits Cyberabad and Rachakonda police websites
In a shocking turn of events, cybercriminals have targeted the very institutions that warn citizens about online threats. The websites of the Cyberabad and Rachakonda police commissionerates were recently hacked, leaving both portals non-functional for over a week.
Reports indicate that links on the hacked websites now redirect users to betting platforms. As a precaution, the IT departments shut down the affected servers and alerted the National Informatics Centre (NIC). NIC teams are collaborating with cybercrime police to track the hacker groups responsible for the breach.
This incident comes just days after the Telangana High Court website was hacked, raising serious concerns about the cybersecurity of government portals in the state. In the past, several other Telangana government websites and police apps have also faced similar attacks.
A cybersecurity team based in Delhi, working under NIC supervision, is identifying vulnerabilities and restoring the affected websites. Full restoration could take up to 10 days, during which public access to essential police information remains limited.
Meanwhile, IT teams are updating software, reinforcing firewalls, and implementing stronger security measures to prevent future attacks. NIC officials continue to coordinate with cybercrime authorities to monitor and curb the activities of the hacking groups.
