Customs seize rs 12.93 crore worth narcotics from woman at IGI airport

Customs officials at Indira Gandhi International Airport (IGI) on Friday seized narcotics worth approximately Rs 12.93 crore from an Indian woman arriving from Bangkok.

Officials said that during the examination of a shiny brown and a grey trolley bag, 13 polythene pouches containing a green-coloured substance, suspected to be ganja or marijuana , were recovered. The total net weight of the narcotics was 12.92 kg , which prima facie tested positive for ganja/marijuana.

The case came to light on February 3 following profiling of the passenger, who had traveled via Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam . She was diverted to the Green Channel for X-ray screening and detailed baggage examination.

The passenger was found to have violated provisions of Section 8 of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act , 1985 , and offences under the Act were established. She was arrested on February 4 , and the suspected narcotics along with the packing material were seized under the NDPS Act.

Authorities confirmed that a detailed investigation is ongoing to trace the source of the drugs and determine whether the passenger is linked to a larger smuggling network.
