
Customs Officials Seize 6.93 Kg Heroin Worth Rs 34.67 Crore at IGI Airport
Customs officials at Delhi's Indira Gandhi International (IGI) Airport have seized suspected heroin valued at approximately Rs 34.67 crore from an Indian passenger arriving from Kuala Lumpur, authorities said on Friday.
According to an official statement, the passenger landed at Terminal-3 of the airport on June 16 and was intercepted by customs officers based on profiling at the green channel.
During X-ray screening and a detailed examination of the passenger's two trolley bags, officials recovered four packets containing a white-coloured powder concealed inside the luggage. The substance weighed 6.93 kg (net weight) .
Preliminary diagnostic tests indicated that the recovered material was heroin , customs officials said. Based on the quantity seized, the estimated value of the narcotics has been pegged at around Rs 34.67 crore .
The passenger was subsequently arrested under the provisions of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act , and the seized contraband, along with the packing materials used for concealment, has been taken into custody.
Authorities said further investigations are underway to determine the source of the narcotics and identify the intended recipients or destination of the consignment.
The seizure is part of ongoing efforts by customs authorities to curb the smuggling of narcotic substances through international airports and strengthen border enforcement against drug trafficking networks.
