Cummins Hails Teen Sensation Sooryavanshi: “My New Favourite Batter”
Young batting sensation Vaibhav Sooryavanshi continues to set the IPL stage on fire, and now he has earned a big admirer in Australia skipper Pat Cummins , who called the 15 year old his “new favourite batter” after another explosive innings.
Playing for Rajasthan Royals , Sooryavanshi smashed a stunning 103 off just 37 balls against Sunrisers Hyderabad on Saturday. Despite his remarkable knock, his team ended up on the losing side, but the innings once again highlighted his fearless approach and extraordinary hitting ability.
Sunrisers Hyderabad captain Pat Cummins , who led his side to a five wicket win, was full of admiration for the teenager’s fearless strokeplay. He said bowlers need to be extremely accurate against him as even a slight error gets punished heavily.
“He is my new favourite player . He hits the ball so hard, it is great to watch,” Cummins said, praising the youngster’s clean striking and confidence at the crease.
Cummins also noted that Sooryavanshi has made an impressive start to his career , adding that his aggressive batting is already forcing teams to rethink their bowling strategies.
On the ongoing debate over high scoring pitches in the IPL, Cummins said such conditions are acceptable in T20 cricket as long as they remain fair for both teams. He pointed out that bowlers still play a crucial role despite flat surfaces.
“The scores may look different, but the concept is the same. You still need five quality bowlers ,” he said, stressing that execution remains key in the shortest format.
Sooryavanshi’s explosive batting and Cummins’ praise together underline the rise of a bold new generation in cricket, where fearless hitting is quickly becoming the new normal.
