CS Sai Prasad Calls for Action Plan to Fast-Track PM e-Bus Rollout

The Andhra Pradesh government has intensified efforts to transform its public transport system by accelerating the rollout of the PM e-Bus Sewa scheme , aiming to deliver sustainable and commuter-friendly mobility.

At a high-level review meeting, Chief Secretary G. Sai Prasad directed officials to finalise a clear implementation roadmap and ensure swift execution. He stressed the phased replacement of APSRTC buses that have completed over 15 years of service with modern electric buses , highlighting their role in reducing pollution and cutting fuel costs.

In the initial phase, nearly 750 e-buses will be deployed across 11 major cities, including Visakhapatnam, Vijayawada and Tirupati. With 100 e-buses already operating successfully in Tirupati, the government plans rapid expansion into other emerging urban centres.

To support the transition, ₹129.51 crore has been earmarked for developing charging infrastructure and upgrading depots at 12 locations. The project will be funded under a 60:40 funding model between the Centre and the state.

Officials have also been asked to conduct specialised training programs for drivers and technical staff to ensure efficient operations. The initiative is expected to significantly enhance the commuter experience while positioning Andhra Pradesh at the forefront of India’s green mobility transition.
