Crime rate in Andhra Pradesh drops by over 6% in 2025, DGP reports

Andhra Pradesh has seen a notable improvement in law and order over the past year, with overall crime declining, according to state DGP Harish Kumar Gupta. Speaking at the annual press conference on Monday, he released key statistics highlighting the state police’s efforts and achievements in maintaining public safety.

Harish Kumar Gupta stated that robust policing and effective preventive measures contributed to a 6.17% decrease in total crimes across the state. While over 1.1 lakh cases were registered in 2024, the number dropped to around 1.03 lakh in 2025, marking a significant achievement for the police force.

Among different categories of crime, riots showed the steepest decline, falling by 53.88%. The number of riot cases dropped from 534 in 2024 to just 246 in 2025. Violent crimes, including physical assaults, also decreased by 10.21%. Crimes against marginalized communities improved, with offenses against SCs and STs falling from 2,402 to 1,818. Women’s safety remained a focus, and there was a notable reduction in POCSO cases, with stringent action taken against offenders.

However, the DGP warned that financial crimes are emerging as a growing challenge in the digital age. Despite the overall decline in traditional crimes, economic offenses rose by 4.78%. He noted that cybercrime gangs, often operating from countries such as China, quickly transfer stolen funds abroad, making recovery difficult. While cybercrime cases registered under IT laws decreased, Harish Kumar Gupta urged citizens to remain vigilant against online fraud and financial scams.

The DGP also highlighted measures to tackle organized crime, with strict action against individuals with criminal records. Currently, 26,518 such “rowdy sheets” are active across the state, emphasizing that criminals will not be tolerated. Special operations like ‘Eagle’ and ‘Garuda’ have been successfully conducted to eliminate cannabis and other narcotics.

Additionally, Andhra Pradesh is now among the leading states in technology-driven policing. The forensic department has effectively resolved pending cases, reducing response times and enhancing overall law enforcement efficiency.
