Religious authorities and local moon-sighting committees confirmed the visibility of the crescent moon, marking the end of Ramzan and the beginning of Shawwal , the tenth month of the lunar Islamic calendar . Accordingly, today is being observed as Eid-ul-Fitr across most parts of the country.
In Kerala , where regional confirmations are often followed independently, the festival had already been observed earlier based on local moon sightings.
The conclusion of Ramzan can fall after 29 or 30 days , depending on when the crescent moon is sighted. This year, the month concluded with the sighting on Saturday evening. During Ramzan, Muslims observe fasting from sunrise to sunset , refraining from food and drink as part of spiritual discipline and devotion.

One such post by Arbaaz, who goes by the handle Arbaaz The Great (@ArbaazTheGreat1) , from Hyderabad, celebrated the sighting of the crescent moon and extended greetings of Eid-ul-Fitr Mubarak .
