Crackdown on Terror Network Continues with Two OGWs Held in Kashmir

Security forces achieved another success in their ongoing counter-terror operations by arresting two overground workers (OGWs) linked to terrorist networks in separate operations across Baramulla and Pulwama districts of Jammu and Kashmir. Arms, ammunition and other incriminating material were recovered during the operations, officials said on Sunday.

The first arrest took place in the Sheeri area of Baramulla, where a joint team comprising the Jammu and Kashmir Police, Army and paramilitary forces had established a mobile vehicle checkpoint at Goriwan around midnight as part of intensified surveillance.

During checking, the team intercepted Aijaz Ahmad Ganaie. A search allegedly led to the recovery of one pistol, a magazine loaded with 10 live 9mm rounds, and a mobile phone from his possession. Officials said the seized items have been taken into custody as evidence, and a case has been registered under relevant legal provisions. Further investigation is underway to establish his alleged links and identify possible associates.

In a separate operation in Rajpora, Pulwama, security personnel apprehended another suspected OGW, identified as Tawseef Ahmad Dar, during routine checking.

Officials said security forces recovered a hand grenade and incriminating posters from Dar's possession. The material has been seized for forensic examination and investigation. A case has also been registered against him under the relevant sections of law.

The twin operations form part of continuing security measures aimed at disrupting terrorist support networks operating in the Kashmir Valley. Overground workers are suspected of providing logistical assistance, shelter, communication support or movement facilitation to terrorist groups, making them a key focus of counter-insurgency efforts.

Officials said investigations in both cases are continuing to determine whether the accused were acting independently or as part of a wider network. Security agencies are also examining the origin of the recovered weapons and explosive material while pursuing additional leads generated during the operations. Authorities reiterated that sustained intelligence-based operations remain central to maintaining security and preventing terrorist activities across the Union Territory.
