Crackdown on Illegal Bangladeshi Migrants Intensifies in Mangaluru, 19 Detained

Police have detained 11 more suspected Bangladeshi nationals allegedly staying in India illegally, taking the total number of detainees in the ongoing crackdown against illegal Bangladeshi migrants in Mangaluru to 19 , officials said on Monday.

The latest action is part of an intensified verification drive targeting undocumented migrants working at construction sites, alongside the ongoing Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls.

According to police, officers from the Urva police station conducted raids at multiple locations. Near Kuntikana , three individuals were detained after verification allegedly established that they were Bangladeshi nationals who had been living in Mangaluru for nearly two months while posing as construction labourers.

In another operation at an apartment construction site in Kodikal , police detained eight more suspected Bangladeshi nationals for questioning, while one worker reportedly fled during the raid. Authorities said the documents and nationality claims of those detained are being verified. A group of North Indian workers present at the site was also questioned.

Preliminary investigations suggest the suspects allegedly entered India illegally through the Murshidabad sector in West Bengal before obtaining forged identity documents and settling in Mangaluru. The latest detentions come days after Surathkal police detained nine suspected Bangladeshi nationals from another construction site. Those individuals are being processed for deportation under the directions of the Foreigners Regional Registration Office (FRRO) .

Police have appealed to the public to share information about suspected illegal immigrants to support the ongoing enforcement drive. Among those detained on Monday are Mohammad Kausar Ali, Mohammad Nur Amin, Mohammad Nahidul Islam, Mohammad Humayon Kobir, Mohammad Romjan Ali, Mohammad Abdul Rahaman Royel and Mohammad Noyan , all reportedly from Godagari Upazila in Rajshahi District, Bangladesh . Police said the remaining four detainees are minors , and further investigation is underway to verify the identities, documents and immigration status of all those detained.
