CPM urges more RTC buses in Visakha for commuters

District Secretary M. Jaggu Naidu, on behalf of CPM Visakha district committee, requested the district collector on Monday to increase the number of RTC buses to meet the needs of passengers in Visakha district. He said that the state government has provided free travel facility for women in RTC buses in the name of Stri Shakti Padhakam, which is welcomed by the CPM party.

He said that he has to stand for hours and travel and his health is affected. He said that in some cases there is no space even to stand in the buses, due to different loads and old buses, the difficulties of the drivers and conductors have worsened. You know that a bus was burnt recently. Clashes are also taking place in buses.

He said that currently 630 buses are running in the district. According to expert estimates, there should be at least 60 buses for every one lakh population in big cities. Thus, the city of Maha Visakha should have at least 1500 buses, and the district as a whole should have at least 2100 buses, but there are only 630. There is a huge difference between the required number of buses and the existing number of buses.

Jaggu Naidu said that the government, which should increase the number of buses and control the congestion, has made an announcement through the regional manager of RTC Visakha to change the timings of the passengers. This is the most irresponsible announcement. People travel at the time of their need, Jaggu Naidu said that it is not correct to do it according to the rush hours of the buses. Therefore, the district collector should immediately intervene and the state government should take appropriate measures to increase the number of RTC buses to meet the travel needs of the people of Visakha district.
