Courts took a break as Judges and Ministers hit the rackets
Chief Justice of India, Justice Surya Kant, took part in exhibition badminton matches alongside Union ministers and nearly 75 High Court judges at the All India Judges Badminton Championship 2025. The event, focused on promoting fitness and wellness among the judiciary, underscored the growing importance of recreational sports as a part of work-life balance for judges, rather than being associated with any charitable cause.
Addressing reporters, CJI Kant highlighted the health benefits of staying active, noting that judges often spend long hours seated in courtrooms and chambers. "Judges should make recreational activities a regular habit to stay healthy," he said, emphasizing the role of physical fitness in maintaining mental sharpness and overall well-being.
Union Minister Kiren Rijiju described the occasion as “memorable and energizing,” applauding the increasing participation of judges in sports activities. The championship was organized with support from the Badminton Federation of India, reflecting a wider initiative to encourage wellness, camaraderie, and stress relief among legal professionals.
Beyond competitive play, the exhibition matches offered judges and officials an opportunity to interact in a relaxed setting, strengthening collegial bonds and promoting a healthy balance between work and recreation. The event showcased a lighter, more human side of the judiciary, celebrating fitness, teamwork, and friendly competition.
For those with desk jobs, long hours of sitting can take a toll on both health and energy levels. Experts recommend incorporating small bursts of physical activity like stretching, short walks, or quick workouts into the daily routine. These habits not only help maintain fitness but also boost focus, reduce stress, and make workdays more productive. Staying active, even in brief intervals, ensures a healthier, more balanced lifestyle.
