Court Orders Release Of Tiger Woods’ Drug Records In DUI Investigation
Tiger Woods is facing mounting legal scrutiny after a Florida judge ruled that prosecutors can access the golf legend’s prescription drug records as part of an ongoing DUI investigation linked to his March arrest.
The decision was delivered during a brief hearing in Martin County Circuit Court on Tuesday. Judge Darren Steele approved an agreement between prosecutors and Woods’ legal team, allowing authorities to obtain records from a Palm Beach pharmacy covering prescriptions issued between January and the end of March this year.
The case has attracted widespread attention because Woods, one of the most celebrated figures in world golf, has pleaded not guilty to driving under the influence charges following a late-night crash in Florida.
According to investigators, deputies found Woods showing signs of impairment after his SUV reportedly struck a truck trailer and overturned on a residential road in Jupiter Island . Authorities stated that the road had a speed limit of 30 mph , but Woods was allegedly travelling at a significantly higher speed when the accident occurred. The collision reportedly caused nearly $5,000 worth of damage .
While Woods agreed to undergo a Breathalyzer test , officials said the results showed no trace of alcohol . However, he allegedly refused to take a urine test. Deputies also claimed that two pain pills were discovered in his pocket during the investigation.
Woods’ attorney, Doug Duncan , had earlier argued that the golfer’s prescription history was protected under constitutional privacy rights . During Tuesday’s hearing, however, the defense acknowledged that prosecutors could present a compelling legal reason for seeking access to those records.
At the same time, the court approved a protective order requested by Woods’ legal team. Under the order, the medical records will only be accessible to prosecutors, law enforcement personnel, expert witnesses, and Woods’ defense attorneys.
The latest development adds another difficult chapter to Woods’ turbulent off-course journey. Despite his legendary sporting achievements and remarkable comeback stories, the 15-time major champion now finds himself battling serious legal questions away from the golf course.
