Cotton and Maize procurement centers opened in Husnabad: Minister Ponnam

The state government has taken a significant step to support farmers in the Husnabad constituency. To directly procure agricultural produce from farmers, cotton and maize (corn) procurement centers were inaugurated by Minister Ponnam Prabhakar. These centers aim to ensure that farmers receive the Minimum Support Price (MSP) for their crops.

Cotton procurement center For the convenience of cotton farmers, a cotton procurement center has been set up near Kondapur village on the premises of Go Mata Cotton Mill. Under the supervision of the Cotton Corporation of India, high-quality cotton will be procured directly from farmers. The center’s location within the mill premises provides farmers with transport facilities and other amenities. The minister stated that measures are being taken to ensure farmers get fair MSPs. For the 2025-26 procurement season, the MSP has been fixed at ₹7,710 per quintal for medium staple cotton and ₹8,110 per quintal for long staple cotton. Cotton with moisture content above 12% will not be purchased, while cotton with less than 8% moisture will attract an incentive, as per government regulations.

Maize procurement center Similarly, a maize procurement center was inaugurated by the minister at the Husnabad Agricultural Market Yard to collect maize grown by local farmers. The government will procure maize at the predetermined MSP. Officials emphasized that the process will be carried out transparently without the involvement of middlemen. Currently, maize is being purchased at ₹2,090 per quintal from the procurement centers.

Several farmers expressed relief over the government’s initiative, noting that it would reduce exploitation by intermediaries. Local agricultural department officials advised farmers to maintain quality standards and bring their produce to the centers on time.
