Cosmic Orange iPhone 17 pro max sells out in a flash

Apple’s newly launched iPhone 17 Pro Max in the Cosmic Orange colour has sold out in both the United States and India within just three days of pre-orders opening. The overwhelming demand has left the premium model unavailable for in-store pick-up, with Apple confirming that no storage variants of this particular edition remain in stock at official outlets in these markets.

In India, the shortage is more pronounced as the entire iPhone 17 Pro Max series has been marked unavailable for pick-up, according to updates on the Apple India website. Both the Pro Max and Pro versions of the Cosmic Orange colour are no longer listed for in-store availability. An Apple retail specialist confirmed that the Cosmic Orange variant is “not available in any storage variant,” attributing the supply crunch to the exceptionally high number of pre-orders. The Deep Blue colour remains available in limited quantities at select outlets.

Pre-orders for the iPhone 17 series began on September 12, 2025, with the official India release set for September 19, 2025. While customers who successfully pre-booked will receive their devices on launch day, those seeking the sold-out Cosmic Orange models will now have to wait. Online orders for this variant are still being accepted, but deliveries are expected only after October 7, 2025. A small number of units may be made available at Apple stores on September 19 for walk-in buyers, though these will be sold strictly on a first-come, first-served basis.

The pricing for the iPhone 17 series in India ranges from ₹82,900 for the base model to ₹2,29,900 for the highest configuration. In the United States, the series is priced between USD 799 (approximately ₹70,370) and USD 1,999 (around ₹176,000). The Pro Max models, especially in the newly introduced Cosmic Orange finish, have emerged as the most in-demand among consumers.

Apple’s supply dynamics also underline its broader manufacturing strategy. The company has expanded production capacity in India, with Foxconn assembling the iPhone 17 series at its Bengaluru facility alongside its existing Chinese operations. Industry sources indicate that Apple aims to scale production to 60 million iPhones in 2025, significantly up from 35–40 million units manufactured in 2024–25. In India, iPhone shipments grew by 21.5 per cent year-on-year in the first half of 2025, reaching 5.9 million units, reflecting Apple’s growing focus on the Indian market as both a production hub and a key consumer base.

The rapid sell-out of the Cosmic Orange Pro Max underscores the strong consumer appetite for Apple’s latest premium offerings while also exposing ongoing supply limitations linked to global demand and production constraints. With festive season demand in India expected to rise sharply, the shortage of the most sought-after variant could influence availability trends in the coming months. For now, Apple enthusiasts will have to wait longer for delivery of the Cosmic Orange Pro Max, even as anticipation builds ahead of the device’s official release in stores on September 19.
