Cosmic learning in Mizoram’s schools

Three government schools in Mizoram’s Lunglei district now have a new way to explore the wonders of the universe. The state’s School Education Minister, Vanlalthlana, inaugurated “cosmic classrooms” at Leitlangpui High School, Lungsen Higher Secondary School, and Tlabung Middle School. These classrooms aim to spark curiosity in science and space among students, offering hands-on, interactive lessons about stars, planets, galaxies, and space exploration.

Along with the cosmic classrooms, the minister also launched several other educational programmes. These include an English language foundation programme to strengthen communication skills, a financial literacy campaign to help students understand money management, and an awareness drive to break taboos around menstruation.

Minister Vanlalthlana praised the district administration and the School Education Department for their efforts in improving educational opportunities in Lunglei. He said these initiatives align with the National Education Policy 2020 and the state government’s goal of providing high-quality, inclusive, and equitable education for all children. He expressed hope that these programmes would make a real difference in the lives of students.

Deputy Commissioner Navneet Mann highlighted that these initiatives take a holistic approach to education. They not only focus on academics and science but also cover health, financial literacy, and life skills. She stressed that continued involvement from the community will be key to the success and sustainability of these programmes.

The cosmic classrooms are designed to nurture a love for science and learning. Through interactive lessons and hands-on activities, students will have the chance to explore the mysteries of space, understand scientific concepts, and develop curiosity and critical thinking. The initiative is seen as a step forward in creating an engaging, modern, and well-rounded learning environment for the students of Lunglei.
