
Corruption reigns in Bengal: BJP leader Syed Basha
With the West Bengal Assembly elections approaching, the political atmosphere has heated up significantly. A war of words has intensified between the ruling Trinamool Congress (TMC) and the opposition Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) . The BJP has strongly alleged that corruption has flourished under the 15-year rule of Mamata Banerjee , and that illegal infiltration from Bangladesh has increased .
Bengal a hub of corruption: Syed Basha
Speaking to the media on Sunday, Andhra Pradesh BJP Minority Morcha president Syed Basha criticised the Mamata government. He alleged that over the past 15 years, corruption has overshadowed development in Bengal . He also expressed concern that illegal entrants from Bangladesh are contributing to the rise in extremist activities in the state. Basha asserted that if the BJP comes to power , it would completely seal the borders and curb illegal infiltration .
According to the schedule announced by the Election Commission of India , polling for all 126 Assembly constituencies in West Bengal will be held in a single phase on April 9 , while vote counting will take place on May 4 .
Same momentum in Assam
Meanwhile, elections will also be held in Assam for 126 seats . While the BJP aims to retain power , the Congress is striving to regain its past prominence . The incumbent Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma will once again contest from his former constituency, Jalukbari .
