The contaminated milk incident in East Godavari district has taken a tragic turn, with the death toll climbing to five. A 76-year-old woman from Gandhipuram, who had been battling acute kidney complications, succumbed while undergoing treatment, adding to the growing list of victims.

Fifteen others remain under medical care in various hospitals. Several patients are undergoing dialysis , while a few are being treated on ventilator support. Health officials said the victims were admitted with symptoms including anuria, persistent vomiting, and severe abdominal pain. Clinical examinations revealed abnormally high urea and serum creatinine levels, indicating serious renal damage.

Initial findings suggest that the illness was linked to milk supplied by a private dairy unit in Narasapuram village. Authorities have sealed the facility and detained a suspected distributor as part of the ongoing investigation . Samples have been sent for laboratory analysis to determine the exact nature of the contamination.

Emergency medical camps are operating in affected localities to monitor residents and provide timely treatment. Meanwhile, police have intensified their probe into the supply chain. Officials stated that further action will be initiated once the laboratory reports are received.
