Senior Congress leader V. Hanumantha Rao (VH) has raised serious objections over the manner in which the Women’s Reservation Bill is being implemented. He questioned the absence of a separate census for women and the lack of adequate opportunities for backward classes .

Speaking to the media in New Delhi on Friday , VH clarified that his party is not opposed to women’s reservations , but criticised the lack of transparency in its implementation.

He demanded a separate quota for backward classes within women’s reservations, stating that without such provisions, the benefits would largely go to upper-caste women , which would be against social justice . He also questioned how the bill could be passed without conducting a proper survey on women’s population and their socio-economic conditions. Alleging that it was a pre-election ploy to mislead the public , he criticised the government’s approach.

Opposition leaders staged a protest outside Telangana Bhavan , highlighting the shortcomings in the Women’s Reservation Bill.

Meanwhile, Prime Minister Narendra Modi made an emotional appeal to all political parties to support the amendment to the ‘Nari Shakti Vandan Adhiniyam’ . He urged parties to set aside differences and extend support, stating that millions of women across the country are watching Parliament . He appealed that no party should act in a manner that would hurt their sentiments , and called upon all to stand in support of women’s empowerment , in a post on X.
