‘Congress-Mukt Bharat’ slogan dangerous for the nation, says CM Revanth Reddy

Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy on Saturday warned that the slogan “Congress-Mukt Bharat” is dangerous for the country, arguing that weakening the Congress would undermine the democratic and constitutional foundations of India. He described the party as the “soul of India” and accused the BJP of attempting to erode its historical legacy and ideological influence.

Addressing a training programme for District Congress Committee (DCC) presidents from Telangana and Andhra Pradesh, organised by the All India Congress Committee (AICC) in Vikarabad, Reddy strongly defended the Gandhi–Nehru family against corruption allegations. He said money has never been their priority and that three generations sacrificed wealth and lives for the nation. He alleged that repeated accusations against Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi are politically motivated attempts to tarnish their reputation.

The Chief Minister said Congress workers remain the party’s strength and, if required, could mobilise massive financial resources to support organisational activities. He claimed that the Gandhi–Nehru family represents the voices of Dalits , tribals , backward classes , and minorities , and alleged that political forces are attempting to silence these sections by targeting the family.

Highlighting Congress’s historical role, Reddy noted that the party has over a century of legacy and played a central role in the freedom struggle , nation-building , and the framing of the Constitution . He cautioned that calls to eliminate such a party politically could weaken democratic institutions and social cohesion.

Referring to the freedom movement, he recalled the contributions of the Nehru family, noting that Motilal Nehru supported the national movement with his wealth, Jawaharlal Nehru spent years in prison during the struggle for independence, and former prime ministers Indira Gandhi and Rajiv Gandhi sacrificed their lives in service to the nation. He added that Rahul Gandhi’s nationwide outreach initiatives reflect the continuation of that legacy.

The Vikarabad meeting formed part of the Congress leadership’s broader effort to strengthen grassroots organisation and prepare district units for future political challenges. Reddy urged party leaders to focus on resolving public issues, maintain organisational discipline, and avoid lobbying for positions. He stressed that there are no quotas in the party except a “merit quota,” and that committed workers who stood by the party during difficult periods are being recognised with responsibilities and electoral opportunities.

The Chief Minister’s remarks come as the Congress seeks to consolidate its governance and organisational base in Telangana following its return to power, while positioning itself nationally around constitutional values, social justice, and inclusive politics.
