Congress supports Pak-groomed terrorists: Modi

Prime Minister Narendra Modi, addressing a public gathering in Darrang district, accused the Congress of backing terrorists trained by Pakistan instead of supporting the Indian Army. He alleged that while Indian forces carried out operations to dismantle terrorist infrastructure, certain political elements were engaged in “protecting infiltrators and anti-national forces,” creating risks for national security.

Modi highlighted the recent ‘Operation Sindoor’, a military initiative that targeted cross border terrorist networks, claiming its success was a combination of strategic planning and local blessings from Ma Kamakhya. He criticized Congress leaders for publicly undermining such efforts, suggesting their priorities were misaligned with national interest. According to Modi, infiltrators were attempting to seize land and disrupt Assam’s demography, and political support for such elements could endanger communities, agriculture, and social harmony.

The PM contrasted BJP’s governance record with Congress’s, pointing to infrastructure development. Under the BJP led “double engine” government,where both the state and Centre are aligned,Assam saw six bridges built over the Brahmaputra in the past decade, compared with only three during decades of Congress rule. Modi emphasized how this approach enabled farmers to reclaim land, start cultivation, and witness an agricultural revival.

He also touched on cultural and symbolic issues, condemning remarks by Congress leaders that allegedly disrespected Assam’s iconic singer, Bharat Ratna Bhupen Hazarika. Modi argued that honoring such figures reinforces cultural pride and national unity, whereas dismissing them signals a lack of respect for local identity.

Beyond politics, Modi outlined a vision for Assam’s growth. He highlighted a 13% state growth rate, investments in health infrastructure, and connectivity projects, including the Guwahati Ring Road and Narengi, Kuruwa bridge. He argued that rapid development and security are intertwined: safeguarding borders, supporting the army, and improving local infrastructure create both economic opportunity and resilience against infiltration.

Modi warned of conspiracies to alter border region demographics and announced a nationwide Demography Mission. He urged citizens to support local businesses and embrace self- reliance as part of nation building. His speech blended development plans, security warnings, and cultural advocacy, framing governance as a holistic responsibility: protecting citizens, strengthening institutions, and fostering progress.

This address was more than rhetoric,it reflected ongoing tensions over national security, party politics, and development priorities in Assam. By linking security with economic and cultural development, Modi positioned the BJP’s agenda as both protective and progressive, urging citizens to critically evaluate governance and the stakes of political choices.
