Congress Sounds Punjab Poll Bugle as Rahul Gandhi, Kharge to Attend Sangrur Rally
The Congress is set to launch its campaign for the 2027 Punjab Assembly elections with an 'Insaaf Rally' in Sangrur today, with party leaders Rahul Gandhi and Mallikarjun Kharge scheduled to address the gathering.
Punjab Congress president Pargat Singh announced on Tuesday that the two senior leaders would participate in the rally, which aims to highlight the state's concerns, demand justice and raise issues concerning Punjab's rights and future.
The rally, scheduled to be held at Phagguwala village in Sangrur, is expected to witness the participation of several senior Congress leaders, party office-bearers, workers and a large number of supporters.
Singh said Punjab was facing several major challenges and that the Congress had consistently stood with the people in protecting their constitutional and democratic rights. He described the gathering as an important platform to take the concerns and demands of Punjab's people to the national level.
The Punjab Congress chief also appealed to party workers and residents to participate in large numbers, saying the November 4 gathering would send a strong message in support of justice, the rights of Punjab and a better future for the state.
Meanwhile, Congress general secretary and Punjab in-charge Sachin Pilot has been visiting the rally venue to review preparations and arrangements.
In a post on X, Pilot alleged that people in Punjab were distressed by several issues, including drug abuse, crime, gangsterism, unemployment and the deteriorating law and order situation under the ruling Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government.
He said Rahul Gandhi's visit would be significant in raising the voice of the people and creating renewed hope for political change in the state.
The rally assumes political significance as the Congress seeks to strengthen its organisational presence and mobilise supporters ahead of the 2027 Assembly elections. The participation of Gandhi and Kharge is expected to give momentum to the party's campaign and provide a platform to challenge the ruling AAP government over its handling of key public issues.
