Congress slams BRS ‘Due Card’ campaign, calls it misleading

Congress Pradesh Congress Committee (PCC) Chief Mahesh Kumar Goud has strongly criticized the BRS party for its ongoing “Due Card” campaign. The BRS is reportedly visiting homes across Telangana, claiming that the Congress government has failed to fulfill its promises.

Speaking to the media at Gandhi Bhavan on Tuesday, Mahesh Kumar Goud dismissed the BRS campaign as misleading. He accused the BRS of dropping the state into debt during its rule, and questioned why the party is now talking about governance and accountability.

Congress paying interest on BRS debt Mahesh alleged that the BRS government left a huge financial burden, and the current Congress administration is paying the interest on those debts. He emphasized that if anyone deserves the term “due,” it is K. Chandrashekar Rao (KCR), not the current Congress leadership. He claimed the party has no right to lecture the people about “dues.”

Promises still unfulfilled The Congress leader also highlighted that many of BRS’s previous promises remain unfulfilled. These include initiatives such as “one government job per household,” “Dalit Bandhu scheme,” allocation of three acres of land to farmers, free education from KG to PG, and reservation benefits for Muslims and tribals. Mahesh accused the party of failing in transparency and governance, pointing to various scams and mismanagement during BRS’s tenure, including projects like Kaleshwaram and the Formula-E car race. He compared BRS’s decade-long rule to a “Nawab-style administration” that harmed the state.

Mahesh questioned whether the ration cards of 40 lakh Telangana residents were still “due” under the BRS government. He argued that schemes implemented by Congress - such as Rs. 500 gas cylinder subsidy, free electricity up to 200 units, raising health insurance coverage to Rs. 10 lakh, providing thousands of jobs for unemployed youth, loan waivers, Rythu Bharosa, and bonuses for paddy farmers - cannot be considered “due.” He further asked whether the distribution of ration cards, fine rice, and Indiramma houses could be called “due,” calling the BRS campaign laughable.

Criticism of BJP-BRS alliance Mahesh Kumar Goud also criticized the BJP, alleging that the central government has not supported Telangana’s development and has “diverted crores in GST revenue.” He said the BRS and BJP alliance is working together to spread negative propaganda against the Congress government. On BC reservations, he challenged whether BJP MPs and central ministers have the courage to ask Prime Minister Modi about these issues. Mahesh said the Congress government conducted a transparent caste survey under Rahul Gandhi’s guidance, and no party has the right to question BC reservations.
