Congress Leaders Protest Over NEET Row, Revanth Reddy Extends Support

Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy on Tuesday extended his full support to Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, who led a protest near Prime Minister Narendra Modi's residence in New Delhi over the alleged police action against students demonstrating on the NEET paper leak issue.

Expressing solidarity through a post on X, Revanth Reddy said the Congress has always stood with the country's youth and would continue to support their fight for justice. He stated that Rahul Gandhi was raising his voice for the future of India's young generation while demanding the resignation of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah over the handling of the controversy.

The Chief Minister also noted that AICC President Mallikarjun Kharge and Congress General Secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra had joined the nationwide campaign in support of students protesting across the country. Addressing young people directly, he wrote, "We are all with you," while reiterating the party's slogan, "Congress Haath, Yuva Ke Saath" (Congress Hand with the Youth).

The protest was triggered by the alleged police action against students demonstrating over the NEET-UG examination controversy, which has sparked widespread debate on the credibility of India's competitive examination system. The Congress has accused the Centre of failing to address students' concerns and has called for greater accountability and transparency in the conduct of national-level entrance examinations.

Rahul Gandhi, accompanied by Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, Mallikarjun Kharge, and other senior Congress leaders, staged a sit-in outside the Prime Minister's residence demanding Prime Minister Modi's immediate resignation. The demonstration continued for nearly 20 minutes before Union Minister of State in the Prime Minister's Office Jitendra Singh arrived at the venue, held discussions with Rahul Gandhi, and appealed to the protesters to end the agitation.

The protest also drew participation from Karnataka Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar, Kerala Chief Minister V.D. Satheesan, and several Congress MPs, who raised slogans against the Central government. With the NEET controversy emerging as a major political issue, the Congress is expected to continue pressing for a comprehensive discussion on examination reforms and student welfare, both inside and outside Parliament.
