Congress Leaders Burn KTR Effigy at Gandhi Bhavan
Congress leaders burned an effigy of K. T. Rama Rao (KTR) in front of Gandhi Bhavan , alleging that leaders of the Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) were responsible for the growing drug culture in the state.
Speaking on the occasion, Congress MLC Balmuri Venkat launched sharp criticism against KTR. He alleged that KTR must take responsibility for the rise of drug culture in Telangana. Venkat said that he had earlier challenged KTR to undergo a drug test and reiterated the challenge once again. He demanded that KTR accept the challenge if he had the courage.
Venkat stated that the recent incident involving former BRS MLA Pilot Rohith Reddy had once again brought the issue of drugs in the state into focus. Referring to raids conducted by the EAGLE team , he said that several leaders had allegedly been caught in connection with drugs. In this context, he said KTR must clearly respond on the issue. He also urged him to admit any mistakes and give an explanation to the public regarding the matter.
Venkat said the present government was committed to making the state drug-free. He added that a special EAGLE team had been formed to control drug activities and was taking action wherever necessary. However, he alleged that BRS leaders were attempting to defame the government.
As part of efforts to eliminate drugs, Venkat suggested setting up a drug test centre within the Assembly premises . He said conducting drug tests for public representatives themselves would send a strong message to society. He also proposed installing boards to create awareness about the dangers of drugs.
Venkat further revealed that a representation had been submitted to the Assembly Speaker and the Council Chairman regarding the proposal. He alleged that drug culture had spread even to villages across the state over the past ten years and stressed the need for collective efforts to curb the menace.
