Congress Leader V. Hanumantha Rao Condemns PM Modi’s Remarks
Congress senior leader and government advisor V. Hanumantha Rao (VH) has strongly reacted to Prime Minister Narendra Modi ’s remarks referring to the Congress party as “ MMC (Muslim League Maoist Congress) .” He said these comments amounted to an insult to the sacrifices of the Congress party and announced that they would file a police complaint and initiate legal action against the Prime Minister.
Speaking to the media on Monday, VH said it was inappropriate for a person holding the office of the Prime Minister to use such language. He said the remarks insulting the Congress party were strongly condemned.
He recalled that due to violence by Maoists, former Prime Ministers Indira Gandhi and Rajiv Gandhi lost their lives. He said comparing such a party to Maoists was “shocking and unacceptable.” He also noted that Muslims have an important role in India’s freedom struggle.
VH stated that the Prime Minister’s comments have hurt the sentiments of Congress workers. He said a complaint would be lodged at the local police station and representations would be submitted to the DCP and ACP, seeking action against the Prime Minister.
On the census issue, he also responded that the census should not be conducted without proper representation and inclusion of Other Backward Classes (OBCs). He urged that no one should participate in the census process until OBC details are clearly included.
On Sunday, at a public meeting held in Secunderabad, Prime Minister Modi strongly criticised the Congress party. He alleged that the Congress has moved further into left-wing ideology than the Left parties and has become a fundamentalist organisation. He also said the Congress has become more extremist than the Muslim League and more destructive than Maoists. Therefore, he stated that people are calling it “MMC (Muslim League Maoist Congress).”
