Congress government completes two years of ‘People’s Governance’ in Telangana

The Congress Party government in Telangana has completed two years in office. Following a decisive victory in the state assembly elections, the Congress government assumed power on December 7, 2023. On that day, party leader A Revanth Reddy took oath as the Chief Minister, supported by the newly elected MLAs.

The swearing-in ceremony for the Chief Minister and his cabinet ministers took place at the Lal Bahadur Shastri Stadium in Hyderabad at 1:04 PM. The initial cabinet included 11 ministers, with Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka sworn in as Deputy Chief Minister. The oath was administered by then-Governor Dr. Tamilisai Soundararajan.

The event was attended by senior Congress leaders including Mallikarjun Kharge, Sonia Gandhi, Rahul Gandhi, and Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, along with thousands of party workers and citizens. Before taking office, Chief Minister Revanth Reddy pledged to immediately implement six key promises made by the party during the election campaign. This ceremony marked the beginning of a government committed to “people’s governance.”

Since taking office, the government has focused on social justice, inclusive development, and fulfilling its election promises to improve the lives of citizens. Under the leadership of the Chief Minister, Telangana has pursued a rapid development path aimed at meeting the aspirations of its people.

The government continues to provide free RTC bus services for working women, students, and rural women, easing daily financial burdens and improving safety. LPG cylinders are available at Rs. 500 for poor households, helping thousands manage rising living costs.

Special focus has been given to farmers with programs including loan waivers up to ₹21,000 crore for up to 2 lakh farmers, annual support of ₹12,000 per acre under the “Rythu Bharosa” scheme, transparent payment of minimum support prices, and crop loss compensation along with free electricity for pump sets.

The Indiramma Housing Scheme has been revived, providing financial assistance of ₹5 lakh to eligible families for building homes. In healthcare, the Rajiv Aarogya Bima scheme offers health insurance coverage up to ₹10 lakh for poor and middle-income families. New hospitals, upgraded equipment, and additional staff have improved government healthcare services.

Pensions are being distributed to senior citizens, differently-abled persons, divorced women, and other vulnerable groups under the Cheyutha scheme. The Gruhjyoti scheme provides 200 units of free electricity per household each month, easing financial burdens for families.

Integrated residential schools have been set up in every constituency to provide quality education. The Young India Skill University and Sports University offer advanced training for students and athletes. Financial support is provided to UPSC aspirants through the Rajiv Gandhi Civil Services Assistance program.

Over 69,000 government jobs have been filled in the past two years, boosting optimism among youth. Skill development programs are helping local youth access private sector opportunities. Annual interest-free loans totaling ₹21,000 crore are being provided to women’s groups to support businesses such as solar units, petrol stations, and canteens. Training and financial assistance help women achieve economic independence.

The government continues to invest in road development, urban infrastructure, and solar energy use in schools and offices. Telangana has prepared a vision document for development through 2047 and is implementing the “Bharat Future City” plan to position the state as a global investment destination.

The Telangana government emphasized that its two-year journey has been dedicated to the people and remains committed to inclusive growth, welfare, and building a prosperous, sustainable future for the state.
