Congress expels TN leader M. Hazeena Syed for 6 years over ‘anti-party’ activities

In a decisive move aimed at reinforcing internal discipline , the Indian National Congress on Tuesday expelled Tamil Nadu leader M. Hazeena Syed from its primary membership for a period of six years. The action comes in response to what the party termed as “anti-party activities” during the run-up to the 2026 Tamil Nadu Assembly elections.

The decision, approved by Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge, follows a series of public allegations made by Syed against senior party leaders after she was denied an election ticket . Once the president of the Tamil Nadu Mahila Congress, Syed had taken to social media to express her anger, directly targeting Alka Lamba, the national president of the women’s wing.

Her posts reportedly contained personal remarks and allegations of financial impropriety , along with objectionable comments against key figures within the party, including senior leader K. C. Venugopal. These statements quickly escalated into a controversy, exposing internal tensions within the state unit.

According to an official statement issued by Tariq Anwar, member secretary of the party’s Disciplinary Action Committee, the expulsion takes immediate effect . The party stressed that such conduct, particularly during an election period, undermines unity and organizational integrity .
