‘Come To Assembly Or Resign’: Congress Protest Targets KCR

Telangana Congress leaders staged an unusual protest in Hyderabad on Friday, demanding that former Chief Minister and BRS president K. Chandrashekar Rao (KCR) attend the ongoing legislative proceedings and discharge his responsibilities as the Leader of the Opposition.

Congress leaders accused KCR of remaining largely confined to his farmhouse while staying away from both public engagements and Assembly proceedings. They said that if he was unwilling to perform his duties as the Opposition leader, he should resign from the post.

The protest began at the Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee (TPCC) office at Gandhi Bhavan and continued up to Gun Park. As part of the demonstration, party leaders displayed a large poster depicting KCR in the guise of Kumbhakarna, the mythological character known for his prolonged sleep.

Taking a jibe at the BRS chief, the protesters used the letters in his name to mock him, saying ‘K’ stands for Kumbhakarna, ‘C’ for Chandrashekar and ‘R’ for Rao.

Congress leaders alleged that KCR continues to draw his salary as an MLA and enjoys substantial security despite remaining away from the Assembly. They argued that as the Leader of the Opposition, he has a responsibility to raise public concerns and hold the government accountable inside the legislature.

Khairatabad District Congress Committee president Motha Rohith said that despite the Congress government completing 1,000 days in office, KCR had remained largely absent from public view. He said voters had entrusted KCR with the role of Opposition leader and urged him to come forward and fulfil that responsibility.

Rohith also criticised the previous BRS administration, alleging that several promises made by KCR and K.T. Rama Rao (KTR) during their decade in power were not fully implemented. He accused the previous government of corruption and alleged that the current Opposition was failing to effectively raise issues concerning the people.

Defending the Revanth Reddy-led Congress government, Rohith claimed that it had fulfilled a larger number of its electoral promises within two-and-a-half years in office. He said the remaining commitments would also be implemented in the future.

Rohith further said KTR need not criticise the Congress government, arguing that the BRS had been relegated to the Opposition benches because of the record of its previous administration.
