Collector becomes teacher for a day to inspect ‘Badi Bata’ program

In an unusual initiative, Yadadri-Bhuvanagiri District Collector Hanumantha Rao temporarily set aside his official duties to step into the role of a teacher under the state’s Badi Bata program. The surprise visit aimed to assess midday meal implementation and address other school-related issues.

During his visit to the District Board High School in Pochampalli, the Collector personally inspected the midday meal scheme. He stood in the food queue alongside students and shared the meal with them, taking the opportunity to interact warmly and understand their concerns. He also checked the quality and portion of the food to ensure it matched the prescribed menu standards.

Teaching and academic guidance

Hanumantha Rao even entered the classroom as a mathematics teacher, conducting lessons for 10th-grade students. He motivated them to take a keen interest in studies and outlined strategies to prepare systematically for upcoming annual exams. Students were encouraged to stay away from distractions like TV and mobile phones. The Collector also announced rewards for academic excellence: 200 bicycles for students achieving 100% results, along with recognition for their parents.

Addressing school issues

Students raised concerns about drinking water shortages and the lack of proper toilets. The Collector immediately promised to construct new toilets and ensure access to clean drinking water. He also responded to reports of unauthorized individuals entering the school premises at night due to the absence of a watchman. He instructed the local ACP to arrange daily police surveillance around the school to ensure safety.

The Collector’s hands-on approach left a lasting impression on students and staff alike, demonstrating a blend of duty, compassion, and humility. His visit served not just as an inspection but as a valuable lesson in leadership and responsibility.
