Coalition Government is bound to Anganwadi Workers’ Welfare: Minister Gummadi Sandhya Rani
The Andhra Pradesh government is committed to resolving the grievances of Anganwadi workers through dialogue , said Gummadi Sandhya Rani , Minister for Women, Child and Tribal Welfare . Speaking amid the ongoing strike , she maintained that the coalition administration is approaching the issue with sincerity and respect.
She remarked that the present government is keen on addressing workers’ concerns constructively, without allowing the situation to escalate into prolonged street protests.
Majority of Demands Implemented
The Minister stated that soon after assuming office, the government reviewed the ten principal demands submitted by Anganwadi unions and has already resolved nine of them. As part of the reforms, older mobile devices have been replaced with modern 5G-enabled phones to simplify digital reporting and monitoring.
In addition, dedicated funds have been allocated to improve infrastructure at Anganwadi centres to strengthen services for children and expectant mothers.
Salary Revision Under Consideration
Sandhya Rani noted that the long-pending demand for 15 days of summer leave has been approved. Regarding salary revision , she confirmed that discussions were held with Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu .
While acknowledging the workers’ demand to raise wages from ₹11,000 to ₹26,000, she explained that the state’s current financial constraints make an immediate hike difficult. However, she assured that the government is examining feasible options and hinted at a favourable decision in due course.
Call to Resume Duties
The Minister appealed to Anganwadi workers not to be swayed by external influences and stressed that negotiations remain the most effective path to resolution. She urged them to return to work and ensure uninterrupted services to children and pregnant women.
Meanwhile, Anganwadi workers have continued their strike since February 24, alleging that key electoral assurances remain unfulfilled nearly two years into the Chandrababu Naidu-led government. Their primary demand remains a significant wage revision along with other welfare measures.
