C-Mitra: AI help desk enables 100 FIRs in 10 days, cyber victims need not visit stations
The Hyderabad Police’s AI-powered virtual help desk, C-Mitra, has facilitated the registration of over 100 FIRs in just 10 days , enabling victims of cyber fraud to report crimes without visiting a police station, Commissioner V C Sajjanar said on Monday. Launched on January 9, 2026, C-Mitra is the first initiative of its kind in India, aiming to provide quick, accessible, and empathetic assistance to cybercrime victims. The system blends technology with a human touch, using Artificial Intelligence (AI) to simplify the complaint process.
Victims report cybercrimes via the 1930 helpline or the National Cyber Crime Reporting Portal. The C-Mitra team then contacts them to gather details. Using AI, a legally sound FIR draft is prepared, including incident details, relevant legal sections, and proper formatting. The draft is sent to the victim via WhatsApp or email, who then prints, signs, and sends it to the Basheerbagh Cyber Crime Station. Once received, the FIR is registered immediately, and a copy is sent directly to the victim’s mobile, eliminating long queues at police stations.
The initiative also includes a 24-member team working in two shifts from 8 am to 8 pm, making an average of 100 calls daily to victims . AI assists in coordinating communications, tracking complaint status, and providing personalized responses, making victims feel heard and reassured. Officials said initiatives like C-Mitra were necessary due to rising cybercrime, victim hesitation to visit police stations, and the complexities of drafting legal complaints. By combining AI and human empathy, C-Mitra addresses these challenges and speeds up access to justice.
Deekshita, a woman constable working with the team, said, “C-Mitra acts as a bridge. We listen to victims not just as police personnel, but as sisters. This reassures them and builds confidence.” Another constable, Prithvika, described it as a “digital revolution,” adding, “Previously, victims struggled to draft complaints and understand legal provisions. C-Mitra resolves these issues. Our ultimate goal is to make cybercrime eradicated from Hyderabad, so C-Mitra is no longer needed.”
In just 10 days, the virtual help desk has reached out to 1,000 victims, registering over 100 FIRs, demonstrating the potential of AI to revolutionize cybercrime reporting while maintaining a humane approach.
