CM Vijay, Singapore Deputy PM Inaugurate Rs 1,940-Crore CapitaLand Data Centre in Chennai
Tamil Nadu Chief Minister C Joseph Vijay and Singapore Deputy Prime Minister Gan Kim Yong on Thursday inaugurated CapitaLand Data Centre Chennai 01 in Ambattur, marking a significant addition to the state's digital infrastructure.
The project involves an investment of approximately Rs 1,940 crore (USD 203.2 million) by CapitaLand India Trust (CLINT) and the CapitaLand India Data Centre Fund. Expected to be completed by the end of 2026, the facility will have a gross power capacity of 53 MW, including 34 MW allocated to IT equipment across 13 data halls.
The development is designed to support high-density computing infrastructure, including liquid cooling and rear-door heat exchangers. It will also feature a dedicated 110 kV substation, carrier-neutral connectivity, high-efficiency chillers, intelligent energy management systems and rooftop solar panels.
Spread across four acres near key undersea cable landing stations, the facility is positioned to provide high-speed and secure connectivity for digital services. Vijay and Gan Kim Yong participated in a traditional pineapple-rolling ceremony, associated with prosperity in Singapore, and a tree-planting event during the inauguration.
CapitaLand Investment Limited (CLI), a global real asset manager, said it would continue expanding its data centre, logistics and industrial portfolio in Tamil Nadu through its listed and private funds.
The Chennai facility is the first data centre development in Tamil Nadu by CLI's listed fund platform, CLINT. It follows the completion of the trust's 108 MW data centre in Navi Mumbai in 2025, which has been fully leased to a global hyperscaler.
CLI has maintained a presence in Tamil Nadu for 22 years and invested more than Rs 6,000 crore across seven operational assets in the state. Its portfolio includes business parks, industrial and logistics facilities, and lodging infrastructure.
Industries Minister S Keerthana said the state was strengthening its presence in emerging sectors, including digital infrastructure, semiconductors, advanced manufacturing and electronics, as it works towards a USD 1.5 trillion economy by 2036.
She also highlighted semiconductor schemes and proposed parks in Chennai and Coimbatore, expressing confidence that stronger ties with Singapore would attract further investment and create employment opportunities.
