
CM unveils poster for 87th National Badminton Championship
Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu unveiled the official poster for the Yonex-Sunrise 87th Senior National Badminton Championship-2025 at the Secretariat on Thursday. The championship will be held in Vijayawada from December 24 to 28.
State Sports Minister Mandipalli Ramprasad Reddy and Sports Authority of Andhra Pradesh (SAP) Chairman Ravi Naidu formally invited the Chief Minister to inaugurate the tournament. They briefed him on the arrangements being made by the Sports Department, Municipal Administration, and SAP to ensure the event is conducted smoothly. They also highlighted that Andhra Pradesh is hosting the National Championship after a gap of nearly ten years.
Officials informed the CM about the participation of top national-level players and the preparatory measures taken so far. The Chief Minister advised that the tournament be organized in a prestigious and impactful manner. The MLA of Vijayawada East, who also serves as the President of the Badminton Association of Andhra Pradesh, was present during the meeting.
Speaking on the occasion, SAP Chairman Ravi Naidu recalled that in undivided Andhra Pradesh, land was allotted to badminton legend Pullela Gopichand to establish his academy, which played a key role in producing several top players. He said the present government has also allocated land to Gopichand in Amaravati and performed the foundation ceremony for a new academy.
He added that the government will extend full support to badminton star Kidambi Srikanth for setting up his academy in Tirupati. Ravi Naidu appealed to the public and sports enthusiasts to participate in large numbers in the upcoming National Championship in Vijayawada. He reiterated that the Chief Minister and the Sports Authority of Andhra Pradesh are committed to promoting sports across the state.
