CM Unveils full scholarships for tribal students at IITs,top global universities

In a major boost to higher education, Arunachal Pradesh Chief Minister Pema Khandu on Sunday announced a 100 per cent scholarship scheme for tribal students from the state who secure admission to the Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs) or any of the world’s top 150 universities as per QS Rankings.

Speaking at the inauguration of the annual college week celebrations at Dera Natung Government College (DNGC) in Itanagar, Khandu said the initiative aims to encourage meritorious students to pursue quality education at premier institutions. The chief minister also announced that 75 per cent scholarships would be extended to those undergoing commercial pilot training, while 10 youths will receive annual support to obtain merchant navy certification.

Recognising that DNGC has been functioning beyond its capacity, Khandu directed officials to identify land for a new college in the Itanagar Capital Region. He also revealed that two new departments Sociology and Mass Communication have been approved for DNGC, taking the total to 16.

Khandu further announced major infrastructure upgrades, including a new administrative block, hostels for boys and girls, a multi-purpose sports hall, and a 1,200-seat community auditorium to enhance the college’s facilities.
