Telangana Chief Minister Revanth Reddy on Thursday urged the Union government to consider supplying fine-quality rice through ration shops across the country, similar to the system currently followed in Telangana.

The Chief Minister, along with State Minister Uttam Kumar Reddy, held a meeting in Hyderabad with Union Minister for Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution Pralhad Joshi. During the discussion, Revanth Reddy explained that Telangana is the only state providing sanna biyyam (fine rice) to ration-card holders, ensuring that beneficiaries receive rice of the same quality they consume daily.

He stressed that the true purpose of any welfare initiative is fulfilled only when citizens receive quality food grains. Revanth Reddy requested the Centre to examine Telangana’s model and explore the possibility of extending fine-rice distribution across the nation. If needed, he suggested a detailed study before taking a final decision.

Responding to the proposal, Union Minister Pralhad Joshi said the Centre would undertake a comprehensive assessment and make an appropriate decision after evaluating all aspects.

Senior officials from both the central and state governments, including Telangana Chief Secretary K. Ramakrishna Rao, were present at the meeting.
