CM Revanth Reviews Procurement Crisis, Orders Field-Level Monitoring
Amid rising farmer complaints over delayed procurement and crop losses due to unseasonal weather, Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy has directed officials to accelerate the procurement of paddy, maize, and other crops across the state and ensure farmers do not face hardships at purchase centres. The Chief Minister issued the instructions during a high-level video conference with district collectors and senior officials on Tuesday.
The review meeting comes at a time when opposition parties, particularly the BRS and BJP , have intensified criticism of the Congress government over alleged delays in lifting grain stocks from procurement centres. Farmers in several districts reportedly faced difficulties due to shortages of transport vehicles, labourers, storage space, and delays caused by intermittent rains and high moisture content in harvested paddy.
Taking serious note of the situation, Revanth Reddy warned officials that negligence in procurement operations would not be tolerated under any circumstances. He instructed district collectors to personally visit procurement centres and closely monitor the entire process to ensure smooth operations.
The Chief Minister directed officials to maintain sufficient stocks of gunny bags and deploy adequate labour for loading grain onto lorries without delay. Local workers should be identified and utilised wherever necessary to avoid bottlenecks in transportation, he said. He also instructed authorities to issue receipts to farmers immediately after grain stocks are loaded, stating that this would help prevent irregular deductions in the name of wastage or moisture content.
Expressing concern over the impact of heatwave conditions and unseasonal rains , Revanth Reddy asked district administrations to establish a weather alert mechanism at the mandal level to keep farmers informed about changing weather conditions.
The Chief Minister further warned transport contractors that strict action, including criminal cases, would be initiated if they fail to provide enough lorries as per agreements. In areas facing transportation shortages, officials have been asked to arrange tractors and alternative vehicles for shifting grain to rice mills and warehouses.
To tackle storage issues, the government has also decided to use Rythu Bazaars , function halls, and other public spaces as temporary storage centres in districts where warehouse capacity is insufficient.
Deputy Chief Minister Bhatti Vikramarka , MP Vem Narender Reddy , Chief Secretary K. Ramakrishna Rao , ministers, and senior officials attended the meeting.
