CM Revanth reviews ‘Montha’ cyclone situation

Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy held a high-level review meeting to assess the impact of the ‘Montha’ cyclone and the resulting heavy rains across the state.

With the harvest season underway and paddy drying in several fields, the Chief Minister directed officials to take all necessary precautions to prevent crop damage. He also instructed authorities to ensure that paddy and cotton procurement centers are well-protected from the rain.

High alert in districts, alternate arrangements for train passengers

Following the Chief Minister’s instructions, officials in the rain-affected districts - particularly the erstwhile Khammam, Warangal, and Nalgonda districts, as well as Hyderabad - were put on high alert.

Due to the heavy downpour, the Golkonda Express was halted at Dornakal Junction and the Konark Express at Gundratimadugu Station. In response, South Central Railway officials rerouted several trains. The Chief Minister asked them to make immediate alternate transport arrangements to avoid inconvenience to passengers.

Relief and safety guidelines

The CM directed that SDRF (State Disaster Response Force) and NDRF (National Disaster Response Force) teams work in close coordination under the supervision of district collectors in the most affected areas.

Officials were instructed to stay vigilant and relocate residents from low-lying and flood-prone zones to safer shelters without delay. Irrigation officials were told to constantly monitor water levels in reservoirs, tanks, and ponds, and to alert field staff before releasing excess water. Sandbags should be kept ready at full reservoirs as a precautionary measure, he added.

The CM further ordered that vehicular movement be completely restricted on flooded roads, low-level bridges, and causeways. Police and revenue officials were asked to set up barricades and monitor these areas to ensure public safety.

Health and sanitation measures

Highlighting the risk of mosquito-borne and water-borne diseases following the rains, the Chief Minister directed urban and rural sanitation teams to carry out regular cleaning and disinfection drives. The Health Department was told to stock adequate medicines and set up temporary medical camps wherever needed.

Departments to work in coordination

Revanth Reddy emphasized that all departments - including Revenue, Electricity, Panchayat Raj, Roads & Buildings, Health, Police, Fire Services, and SDRF - must work in close coordination to prevent loss of life, property, or livestock.

In Hyderabad, the CM directed GHMC, HYDRAA, SDRF, and Fire Services to respond promptly to public grievances and emergency calls.
